Express Payments: RTP outages, failed transfers, and recovery expectations

Denim gives payees the option to receive Express Payments that can be settled in your bank account and are typically ready to use within 5 minutes. Availability depends on the underlying real-time payment (RTP) network, so network maintenance or an outage—including on weekends or holidays—can delay or prevent an Express payment. Express Payments are not guaranteed to succeed or be available within 5 minutes when the RTP network is unavailable.

In order to be eligible, you must:

1. Have a bank account that is real-time-payment eligible

2. Have a payer or broker who has opted-in to offering Express Payments

What happens if an Express payment fails or is delayed?

If an RTP transfer fails, the failed payment is included in the next payout batch. Support may also try to manually process a batch during an active Express-payment issue, but this is a support-side action and does not guarantee an immediate recovery or a specific payout time.

A temporary processing backlog is different from an RTP transfer failure and may cause a delay even when the RTP network is available. For any reported failure or delay, contact support to confirm the current status and recovery of the specific payment.

Can I chose which invoices are express paid?

Yes! If you navigate to your Denim dashboard, you will see an "Express Payment Filter." This filter shows invoices that are eligible to be paid instantly. Then, by selecting the "Get Paid Instantly" button, you will see the exact fee breakdown for this specific invoice

How much does being paid instantly cost?

Denim clients set the fee that they want to charge for Express Payments. Since Denim provides discounts for delaying payments, this helps offset the increased factoring fee charged to Denim clients for paying faster. Denim will also charge a $5 fee to cover the transaction cost for sending and settling these payments instantly.

If you are already paying a QuickPay fee, you'll be able to see the difference between the original "reimbursed" amount, and the new Express Payment fee.

Can I chose to be paid instantly for all invoices?

Yes! If you head over to your Payment Settings tab, you can pick and choose which payers you always want to be paid instantly from. This setting will instantly pay all already-approved invoices, and all future invoices from this specific payer

Please note that an Express payment is normally sent upon job approval, but paperwork issues, RTP network outages or maintenance, and temporary processing backlogs could impact when payments are sent. For invoices with the "Get Paid Instantly" button, these have been already approved and therefore there is no delay for review.
